As part of his fantastic ‘Audio-Visual’ set of artworks, talented English Artist Peter Crawley presents this wonderful monochrome piece named ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ named after the Joy Division song from which its formation and shape is inspired. By dismantling audio clips, most commonly songs, Crawley then creates an artistic visualisation of the clip in the form of a stitched illustration, with each horizontal line representing one minute of audio.

If you would like to see more of Peter Crawley’s stunning stitched artwork, head over to his website, as linked at the beginning of this post, where you can find plenty more from an array of subjects.

I’m not much of a fan of the ‘Hipster’ trend that seems to have swept the western world in recent times, nor the public’s growing consequential habit of immediately labelling anything vintage or classic as ‘Hipster’ as a result. However in his devilishly provocative new project named ‘Hipster In Stone’ esteemed French Photographer, Léo Caillard merges the undeniable regality and archaic beauty of old fashioned statues with the conflict-inducing clothing choices of the modern fashionista.

If you would like to see more from this project, or you’re interested in seeing more of Léo Caillard’s varying portfolio of work, head over to his website as linked at the beginning of this post.

It’s always so fulfilling to find an artist who’s natural illustrative-style is immediately pleasing to your own personal tastes. That being said, it is even rarer, and all the more enjoyable, to come across an artist who’s portfolio does just that, on a much grander scale, successfully encompassing a number of varying styles of illustration, each one as aesthetically intriguing as the last. This analogy can be perfectly exhibited through the work of French Artist, Thibaut Roques.

If you would like to see more of Roques’ work, successfully experimenting with monochrome and colour-rich styles, as well as implementing both urban and natural landscapes, to inform his compositions in a number of artistic approaches, head over to his Tumblr as linked above.

Most well known for his remarkably bright, colour-rich silk screen pieces, California-based Japanese Artist Hiro Yamagata produces stunningly startling artworks, often influenced by the bright lights of the countries he emigrated to throughout the 70’s and 80’s, as well as some more immediately recognisable pop culture-inspired ingredients. Whether the subject matter is naturally anarchic or made that way through the implementation of eye-catching balloons, flags or other objects, Yamagata’s work is always noticeable and never bland.

Rewind a few years and Google’s visual identity would hardly have been seen as being at the forefront of graphic design. Now, however, thanks to the release of a digital, visual guideline to the company’s identity and design, it is clear to see, in remarkable detail, that the Californian internet-giants are making vast and impressive strides in becoming the company to beat, or perhaps more likely, to follow in graphic design.

Through their ‘Smarter Cities’ project, American technology company IBM have sought to create innovative solutions to common problems, with the hope of improving the standard of every day living in cities, helping their residents become ‘smarter’. When described on the ArtSpace website, Monogenis’ artwork is said to “[generate] images of incongruity by exposing the awkward and inevitable relationship between nature and development… [questioning] the logical placement of the industrial within the natural environment.”

Whilst it is Fine Art that occupies the majority of the posts here on Caux Collective, this fantastic branding design was more than enough to buck the trend. Recently designed for an IT-based solutions company, named Threebit, Slovenian Art Director & Graphic Designer Denis Lelic is the man responsible this gorgeous branding design, which is, in my opinion, one of the best examples of an identity having incorporated practicality and aesthetic style, that I have ever seen. The superb, simple colour scheme and highly angular, pictorial style, which is continued throughout each aspect of the identity, makes for a stunning brand that isn’t easily forgotten.

If you would like to see more of Denis Lelic’s professional work, including varied graphic projects and corporate identity redesigns, take a look at his Behance profile, as linked at the beginning of this post.

Attempting to choose just one favourite ‘anything’ in a field where there are thousands of potential options is rarely an easy task. However, when it comes to choosing my favourite contemporary artist, there is a clear winner. Through his collaborative work with Kanye West, American Contemporary Artist George Condo first came to my attention around 2010. His striking, diverse work not only pleases and entertains with its playful use of colour and disregard for normality, but also disturbs and intrigues, using sometimes haunting disfigurements and wretched contortions to portray underlying meanings to any given portrait, exhibited especially well in the first image in the photoset, named ‘The Cracked Cardinal’. These abundantly clear talents, I feel, really set Condo apart from many other artists.

If you’d like to see more of George Condo’s artwork you can head over to the Artnet website to see some of his most recent pieces in auction, or take a look at the Wikipedia entry, to see a brief history of his life and work.

Using relatively fundamental techniques to expand upon a style based around a visibly muted use of colour, these beautiful illustrations come straight from the portfolio of Spanish Fine Artist, Ricardo Fumanal. Often equipped with only a marker, pencil and ink, to use on paper, Fumanal calls upon his interests in a range of disciplines from “fine arts to fashion and advertising photography” and “a broad array of techniques and languages” to create his own stunning style of illustration.

As I’ve mentioned in a few previous posts, I’ve not always been the biggest fan of hyper-realistic artwork. That is, unless the composition or style of the image contains elements that set it apart from something that could simply be photographed. The artwork shown here, from Los Angeles-based Fine Artist Seth Armstrong, is a perfect example of this. While the urban landscapes contain relatively little that would cause you to question whether or not they were real, the stunning execution, which combines a visibly painterly style with a photographic-likeness, really makes these gorgeous pieces stand out.

If you would like to see more examples of Seth Armstrong’s beautiful artwork, including many more varied projects, you can find an extensive portfolio on his website, as linked towards the beginning of this post.

South Korean Designer Jaemin Jaeminlee recently examined the way in which we humans tell the time. Be it digital or analogue, by using clocks, watches and countless other time-pieces, we are constantly aware of exactly what minute is passing, any hour of the day. However, Jaeminlee recognised an unfortunate truth in this informative process. We no longer realise the invaluable significance of each passing moment, instead we simply care what time it is, in order to go about our daily routines.

Known simply by the pseudonymous name Replaceface, this semi-anonymous collage artist takes images of famous celebrities and known figures, from the modern world, and transports them back into by-gone eras in the form of military style portraits. Replaceface gives little in terms of the mechanics or origins of the pieces, although we are told that each piece is a Photoshop-based manipulation of a vast set of digital portraits, originally painted by George Dawe, who, we are reliably informed by Replaceface, ”was an English portrait artist [responsible for painting] 329 portraits of Russian generals active during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia.”

If you would like to see more of Replaceface’s fantastic collage-lead portraiture, head over to his website, linked at the beginning of this post. There you will find many more stunning pieces, as well as a process in which you request to have your own face ‘replaced’ by the artist themself.
